Demystifying the Pelvic Exam
Although our simulators are typically used to train medical professionals, sometimes they are used to educate the public on what they can expect in certain scenarios.
OBGYN, Author and Educator Dr. Jennifer Lincoln published the below video explaining to her viewers what a pelvic exam and pap smear generally involve.
Using our MODEL–med Gynaecological Simulator, she is able to accurately walk through the steps involved to help alleviate some of the fears and misconceptions that women have.
This is especially important when considering a 2022 National Health Review Survey of America found that up to 23% of women were not up to date with their cervical screening. A lack of knowledge was cited as one of the main reasons.
A pap smear is one of the best ways to detect early signs of cervical cancer, it is also an opportunity for an OBGYN to flag any other issues that may be present. In both of these scenarios, early intervention is vital to best patient outcomes.
We encourage you to watch Dr. Jennifers video below:
A quick look through the comments really illustrates how important education around cervical exams really is. From feeling more comfortable, to debunking misconceptions… the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
Given the importance of pap smears, any content that encourages women to get one done could literally save a life. We are absolutely delighted that our simulators can assist content creators like Dr. Jennifer in doing their important work.
